There
are few things more cruel than shaming someone for their body. But a Playboy
model took fat shaming to the most degrading, petty, and downright
malicious level imaginable. Dani Mathers, 2015’s Playboy Playmate of the
Year, snuck a photo of a stranger showering at the gym and
posted it to her Snapchat account saying, “If I can’t unsee this then you
can’t either.” The photo was accompanied by a shot of
Mathers covering her mouth in giddy delight. The post
was deleted after Mathers received a deluge of negative responses.
Body
shaming is always terrible, but when a “beautiful” model (by mainstream
standards anyway) giggles and points her finger at someone who
doesn’t align with her narrow aesthetic view it goes far beyond
bullying and slides right into sadistic. Plus, the woman in the shower was not
only humiliated, but had her privacy violated in the most intrusive, tasteless
way possible. Mathers’ Twitter profile has since been deleted, but here
are some of the responses she’s received:
Although
Mathers claims the photo was an accident because she is “new to Snapchat,” she
uploaded a video where she apologized for the post.
